Jesus Speaks (Word Become Flesh)
Words shape our world. With a single word, a doctor changes a life, a loved one heals a wound, and a promise alters a future. From the opening of Scripture—“And God said”—we see that words carry power. But John’s Gospel takes us deeper: God’s Word is not just sound. It’s a Person.
In John 1:1–18, the Apostle introduces us to Jesus as the eternal Word—the One who was with God and was God, the Creator through whom all things were made. When Jesus speaks, creation responds, light invades darkness, and life begins. Rebecca McLaughlin writes, “When John calls Jesus the Word, he is saying that the God who created the universe has spoken Himself to us in a person.
This sermon invites us to see Jesus clearly as the Living Word who speaks creation, illumination, and incarnation. He speaks creation—your life is not an accident, but a word spoken into being by Christ Himself. He speaks illumination—light that reveals truth, exposes lies, and awakens hearts. And He speaks incarnation—the Word became flesh, God close enough to touch, to weep, to bleed.
This is not abstract theology or religious philosophy. It is the astonishing reality that the infinite God has made Himself known in Jesus. As John Calvin said, “The Son of God clothed Himself with our humanity, that He might clothe us with His glory.”
To see Jesus clearly is to listen when He speaks, to believe what He says, and to bear witness to His light. Because when Jesus speaks, life begins, light shines, and grace draws near.
