The Hope & Plan of God

For 2020, we're spending the entire year exploring the Bible, its story, and significance for us as followers of Jesus. Here is our working definition of the Bible: “The Bible is a library of writings that are both divine and human, that together tell a unified story, which leads us to Jesus.”

This past Sunday we continued into a new mini-series called ‘The Prophet.’ Up this week we explored ‘The Hope & Plan of God’ and really dove into the meta themes of ‘doing’ righteousness and justice. Take a listen.

As promised, here’s the quote on righteousness and justice from Bruce Waltke to mull over: “Righteousness is a pattern of life, not merely specific acts. What is at stake is personhood, not merely performance. Disposition rather than mere deeds. Character behind and beyond conduct. This kind of life and behavior has a religious dimension as well as an ethical one. Since the righteousness depends on the Lord, righteousness refers to the moral quality that establishes right order, and justice refers to the moral quality that restores that order when disturbed. The righteous are willing to disadvantage themselves to advantage the community. The wicked are willing to disadvantage the community to advantage themselves.“

Like thousands of churches worldwide, this global pandemic has forced us to be creative in our response — both in terms of how we gather and how we serve our community. Though we believe the normative pattern established in Scripture for community anticipates embodied presence, there are certain times where that’s not possible. We find ourselves in such a time and are thankful to be able to leverage the digital landscape to remain faithful to plugging into community. This week’s Gathering came by way of a Zoom video call.
