Sermon On The Mount – Week 9

Our ninth week into The Sermon takes us to Jesus’ exhortation towards greater righteousness in our word. But where many might see this as one of Jesus’ easier teachings, there’s a lot at stake.

We know that in ALL of Scripture there is not a single word that isn’t true. God, in his very nature, cannot speak anything untruthful. Perhaps this is part of the reason we’re exhorted to “put away falsehood” and to “speak the truth with [our] neighbor,...” (1 Timothy 4:25). Being “imitators of God” means our words should be like his — life-giving and truthful.
