Living Stones

We’re moving onward in our series called ‘Stand Firm” where we’ve been doing a deep dive into the Books of 1 & 2 Peter. We just wrapped up the beautiful Doxology found in 1 Peter 1:3-12 and are moving into a section where Peter exhorts his audience to live into their new identity as children of the Heavenly Father. We narrowed in on Chapter 2:4-8 which read:

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen andprecious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be aholy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Forit stands in Scripture:

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,

a cornerstone chosen and precious,

and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone,”

and

“A stone of stumbling,

and a rock of offense.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

Peter gives us the idea that once we have tasted the goodness of Christ and his gospel, we will not care what others think of us, but will take our spots alongside Jesus in God’s temple as priests and sacrifices to God in the world.

Give the sermon a listen and we hope to see you this week at a Family Meal and/or a DNA group to dive even deeper.
