The Work of Christ

We’ve officially entered into 2 Peter and kicked off the first week learning from 1:1-4:

1 Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ,

To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by therighteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:

2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus ourLord.

Confirm Your Calling and Election

3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness,through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which hehas granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you maybecome partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in theworld because of sinful desire.

There is so much gospel-saturated goodness in just these four verses. While there is much theology contained within them, a simple, plain reading is enough to overwhelm us with the truth, grace, and love of Christ. We took a deep dive into vv. 1-4 but ultimately arrived with the idea that ‘Christianity is a divine project of replacing inferior joys in inferior objects with superior joys in God himself’ — John Piper.
