Psalm 10

Like 2019, we’re spending the Summer in the Psalms for 2021. This time we’ll be going through them sequentially which will give us a unique perspective into the ‘Poetry’ genre of the Scriptures.

Up next was Psalm 10 — a Psalm of lament. The fact that ⅓ of the Psalms are prayers of lament should show us that the problems that give rise to lament are NOT marginal or unusual things — On the contrary, they’re normal and even central to the life of faith. This means that our prayer culture suffers when we don’t rightly and biblically understand/practice lament. G.K. Beale writes, “Ultimately, lament can express the deepest trust in God, or it can wholly reject God; lament then becomes the spiritual experience of trustful humility or the defiance of God in pride. Biblical lament is prayer; secular complaint collapses into the meaningless.” Our dive into Psalm 10 taught us that “God’s people lament that this world does not look like the Kingdom of God and yet trust in His promises that it one day will.”
