Psalm 5

Like 2019, we’re spending the Summer in the Psalms for 2021. This time we’ll be going through them sequentially which will give us a unique perspective into the ‘Poetry’ genre of the Scriptures.

Psalm 5 forced us to dive headfirst into the deep end of the imprecatory pool. We had to wrestle with verses like, “ The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers.” How can God allow David to pray curses on his enemies and then Jesus call us to love our enemies? What gives? But because we’re a church that is committed to high theology AND high relationship, we have to be committed to diving into the hard questions of the Bible. We have to be able to rightly understand God’s judgment to more fully understand his gospel of grace. The BIG IDEA we tried to walk away with was that, “God hates evil and has promised to bring it to justice. But the good news of the gospel, for anyone who truly has faith, is that Jesus did not come w/the sword of justice in his hands but the nails of the crossHe did not come to bring God’s judgment on the world but to bear it.”Give it a listen.
