Greater Love – Week 2
We’re taking a quick break from The Sermon On The Mount to spend the month of Easter looking into John 15 where Christ says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” Our hope is to explore the depth and implications of this Greater Love as we look at our love for God, our love for each other, and God’s love for us.
This week we sat in vv. 9-17 and looked at what it really looks like to love one another like Christ loves us. We talked about the chain of events that are taking place in John 15 and end in our commitment to love one another. The chain of events goes like this:
Genuine love for God ensures genuine love for his Son, Jesus
That genuine love for the Son ensures obedience to Him
That obedience to Him is especially tested by obedience to the new commandment that He gave in 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
