December Events

Happy December, City Parish! We’ve got some exciting things coming up that we wanted to remind everyone of…

City Parish is partnering with other City Ministries churches and churches from all over Sonoma County to come alongside Help One Child’s amazing ‘Giving Tree’ program. If you’ve taken an ornament (or two or three), don’t forget to return it, unwrapped, by Sunday, December 4th. Also, we still need volunteers for shifts for the capstone event of the ‘Giving Tree,’ ‘Santa’s Secret Shop’ on Saturday, December 10. Click Here to sign up for a shift!

We’ve got an awesome night of celebrating Advent together on Thursday, December 15 (i.e. when all 3 MCs usually have their Family Meals). We’d love for anyone and everyone to join us at 6 PM for a fun time involving good food, Christmas themed activities and games for all ages, and some Christmas Karaoke. If you’re new to City Parish or not a part of an MC, shoot us an email and let us know you’d like to come. For everyone else, check with your MC via the Church Center app.

Our MCs are each traveling through Saturate’s Advent Community Guide at their ‘Family Meals.’ Week One (Hope) was a wonderful time of reflecting on this season of anticipation and really getting down to areas we struggle to hope that God is exactly who he says he is. Download it, engage with it, discuss it, and lean into the hope we have because of the birth of our Christ, Jesus.

Though we’re staying in our series, New Creation (Ephesians), for the month of December, we’ll still be celebrating Advent alongside that. We’ll be meeting in person for our Christmas Eve Gathering at 5 PM at Meadow Elementary (880 Maria Dr, Petaluma, CA 94954). We’ll gather for a brief liturgy of songs, candle lighting, and feasting on some Christmas treats. We’d love to see you there!

Christmas falls on a Sunday this year. And like so many things within broader Christendom — and evangelical culture — there are a TON of opinions about what that means for local churches. While we’d love to meet in person, our unique context of being a church plant makes it a bit more challenging. We’ve decided to do a Scattered Sunday with a hope that every household will take a moment on Christmas morning to finish the Community Advent Guide we’ve been walking through this Advent. On the last page, there’s a beautiful ‘liturgy’ to walk through with all those you are gathered with.
