A Warning
We’ve been a new series for 5 weeks now called ‘Anchor of the Soul’ where we’re diving into the Book of Hebrews. It’s been an incredible, albeit challenging, time as this book (a sermon, really) is incredibly pointed and dense. Mixed throughout this preacher’s excursus are a few warnings and we arrived at the second one for Week 6 that we aptly named, ‘A Warning.’ This section of Scripture (Hebrews 5:11-6:10) is easily one of, if not the, most controversial passages in the whole New Testament. But, as Daniel mentioned, a lot of that is because we’re set on asking a question that the preacher doesn’t necessarily seem intent to answer. That question being: Can I lose my salvation? We cover that topic and contend that we should heed the warning this passage thrusts upon us. The BIG IDEA for this week was: “The dangers of misunderstanding God’s radical grace and forgetting that it always and necessarily leads to radical obedience can be disastrous.”
Like thousands of churches worldwide, this global pandemic has forced us to be creative in our response — both in terms of how we gather and how we serve our community. Though we believe the normative pattern established in Scripture for community anticipates embodied presence of the Gathered Church, there are certain times where that’s not as safe. We find ourselves in such a time and are thankful to be able to leverage the digital landscape to remain faithful to plugging into community. This week’s Gathering came by way of smaller House Gatherings (following local, state, and federal guidelines) via Zoom. We’d love for you to join us next week!Jesus is supreme over all things and worthy of our whole lives living in submission to both his grace and his glory.
