The Work of God
We’ve reached a milestone in our series called ‘Stand Firm” where we’ve been doing a deep dive into the Books of 1 & 2 Peter. This week (Week 24), we wrapped up the book of 1 Peter where he concludes his long exhortation of standing firm through difficult times and trusting God. 1 Peter 5:6-11 reads,
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the propertime he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Besober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kindsof suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And afteryou have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal gloryin Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be thedominion forever and ever. Amen.
Our BIG IDEA for this week was, “Because God is sovereign over even the hardships we suffer, we can trust him to put things right, strengthening, empowering, and securing us.” We dove deep into the idea that to call Christ Lord and proclaim God to be King is to be humbled under God’s mighty display of eternal power rather than to cower before the pale might of any earthly ruler.
Give the sermon text a read and a listen and we hope to see you this week at a Family Meal and/or a DNA group to dive even deeper.
